Banish Under-Eye Bags With a Lower Eyelid Lift

As you age, the skin under your eyes thins and may have a puffy appearance that makes you look tired and older than you really are. If the bags under your eyes are starting to look more like suitcases, it may be time to consider cosmetic surgery.

A lower eyelid lift can take years off your appearance in a matter of hours. And, after you heal, you’ll look refreshed, awake, and younger. If you want to get a lower eyelid lift, trust Dr. Robert A. Guida in New York City and Staten Island, New York. He has the skills and expertise to perform this delicate surgery so you can look your best.

What causes under-eye bags?

The skin under your eyes is thin to begin with, but as you age, it thins even more. Also, the muscles that support your eyes weaken over time, so the skin may sag and look wrinkly. When extra fluid or fat gets in there, the area under the eyes appears puffy or swollen. Allergies, lack of sleep, and smoking can make them look worse. Sometimes, under-eye bags run in families.

Treatment

If you have bags under your eyes, you’ve probably tried cold compresses, cool tea bags, and cold spoons to get rid of the puffiness. It probably goes away for a little while but then comes back again. If you’re tired of looking exhausted, it’s time to consider blepharoplasty — surgery of the lower eyelid.

What to expect

The surgery is done in our office under local or general anesthesia. Local anesthesia is used most of the time unless you’re having other procedures done simultaneously. Dr. Guida carefully removes any excess skin and fat under from under your eye and sews the skin back together. This creates a lifted look. The surgery takes one to three hours, depending on your particular situation.

Aftercare

We recommend the following aftercare:

If you develop a fever, bleeding, or pain that gets worse instead of better, call our office right away.
