Face and Neck Lift
Dr. Guida’ Facelift Philosophy
Dr. Guida believes it is possible to achieve an attractive, more youthful looking face and neck without showing any obvious signs of having had a surgical procedure. With careful preoperative planning, individualized assessment of the surgical approach, and enhancement with simultaneous fractional laser resurfacing, the best cosmetic result can be obtained with emphasis on a short and healthy recovery.
Dr. Guida feels strongly that the face and neck lift operation can and should work well for both men and women. Hair patterns and hairstyles differ among women and men, but with careful preoperative planning, the patient can obtain the more youthful look she or he expects with a well thought out and camouflaged procedure.
Dr. Guida espouses a “deep-plane”, two – layered face and neck lift, with emphasis on the deep muscular layer of the face and neck. This achieves a more natural looking and longer lasting result.
Dr. Guida also believes the operation must be customized and individualized for each patient’s particular needs and concerns. Some patients only want to focus on the neck skin, while others are more concerned with the jowls or midface area. The procedure can be tailor – made, depending upon the patient’s anatomy and desires. Dr. Guida will have a detailed conversation with the patient, perform digital computer imaging, and then come up with a specific plan that will achieve the desired results with the quickest recovery.
Often the results can be greatly enhanced with simultaneous fractional CO² laser resurfacing or customized chemical peels to the sun damaged facial skin. With one procedure, Dr Guida can tighten the skin and muscle of the face and neck while simultaneously also rejuvenate the outer layer of the skin.
The best candidates for a face –neck lift are healthy people who have noticed that the skin and muscle around their face, jaw line, and neck has loosened and is now sagging.
- A double chin or “turkey neck
- Presence of “jowls” or looseness of skin along the jaw line
- Sagging of the skin around the cheekbone and mid-face area
- Deepening of the crease that runs form the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth (nasolabial fold)
- Vertical neck cords or bands from loosened muscle
The facelift and/or necklift that Dr. Guida performs is really a combined and customized mid-facelift, lower facelift, and necklift, performed simultaneously. By tightening the neck, defining the jaw line, and elevating the cheeks, Dr. Guida’s technique creates a long lasting, natural and youthful appearance. The areas to be improved include the midface (cheeks), the line from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth, the loose skin at the jaw line (jowls), and the neck, along with neckbands. The amount of tightening in each part of the face is individualized based on the patient’s appearance and desires. This procedure includes tightening the facial and neck skin, muscle (SMAS), as well as sculpting the fat. The goal is to achieve a natural, refreshed look that suits your individual appearance.
Dr. Guida strongly believes in utilizing appropriate vitamins, nutritional supplements, and an attentive surgical approach to allow most patients to gradually return to their normal routine less than two weeks after surgery. A patient should allow 10 to 14 days for full recovery from a face – neck lift. One can be up and about during these 10 – 14 days, but light activity and rest is encouraged.
Ice compresses should be applied to the face and eyelids for the first few days after surgery. This, along with the medications Dr. Guida will prescribe, will minimize swelling and bruising and speed up the recovery process. Most often, Dr. Guida does not use drains after the procedure, making the recovery more comfortable and the healing faster.
Dr. Guida actively participates with his patients’ after surgical care, often seeing his patients the following morning after the operation. At this time the light pressure bandage is removed. One can shower within the first few days after the procedure, which often increase the patient’s sense of wellbeing. You may begin to lightly exercise three to four weeks after surgery. Bruising is usually gone in 10 – 14 days, but subtle swelling will take several more weeks to fade.
