Patients whose eyebrows have fallen below the brow line which gives the appearance of “hooding” of the eyebrow and forehead with deep frown-line forehead creases.
Dr Guida performs an endoscopic browlift to treat droopy eyebrows and deep wrinkling of the forehead. This procedure achieves a natural and youthful beauty around the eyes. Dr. Guida uses operating telescopes to perform this correction, which represents a significant improvement compared to the traditional “open” method. The benefits include smaller incisions and a quicker recovery. For a complete facial rejuvenation, an endoscopic brow lift can be combined with a facelift.
This procedure corrects sagging brow and forehead skin and muscle that result in “hooding” to the eyebrow area. It is important for patients to understand the difference between what a brow lift procedure is designed to do as opposed to what upper eyelid (blepharoplasty) procedure is designed to do. If the position of the eyebrow is below the bony orbital rim, hooding of the eyebrow skin will be visible in the upper eyelid area (this is a thicker skin type than upper eyelid skin type). The correct surgical correction for this condition would be a brow lift. If there is redundant upper eyelid skin, which is a thinner skin type than the brow skin, than an upper eyelid blepharoplasty procedure would be the surgical correction of choice. Some patients may need one or both procedures (browplasty and/or blepharoplasty) to achieve the desired aesthetic correction.
Most patients are presentable one week after surgery, however may need to use some camouflage makeup to hide any visible bruises. Ice compresses should be applied to your forehead area after surgery. This will not prevent swelling and bruising, but it will help minimize it, along with the medications that we have been prescribed specifically for you. Within one week after surgery, all of your bandages and sutures will be removed. At this time you will be able to resume most of your normal activities. You may begin to exercise three to four weeks after surgery. Healing occurs gradually over a period of months and persists well after all of the discoloration has subsided. Avoiding situations that cause swelling are helpful during this phase. Lymphatic drainage massage (a special type of medical massage which is available in our office) can enhance the healing process and help reduce swelling. This can be done as early as one week after surgery.
